Yū Shimaka (島香 裕, Shimaka Yū, May 6, 1949 – July 28, 2019) was a Japanese actor and voice actor. He was formerly affiliated with Production Baobab, and subsequently with Production Aigumi. He was the Japanese voice of the Disney character Goofy.

His voice type is baritone to bass. He was known for his dignified, thick voice. As a voice actor, he often played well-built male roles and threatening villains. He was an indispensable presence in robot anime in the 1980s. He often appeared in dubbed foreign films. As an actor, he appeared in the film "Kagemusha" directed by Akira Kurosawa as Hara Jingorō.

Biography[]

Graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Fuchu Technical High School.

In his later years, he was a lecturer at Tokyo Announce Gakuin, and also taught the next generation at his own private school, "Goof Troop."

Shimaka passed away at his home in Akishima, Tokyo on July 28, 2017 due to a myocardial infarction. His death was announced by TOHO Kai on July 30, 2017, and was published in the press on August 5, 2017.[1]
