Whisper of the Heart (耳をすませば Mimi o Sumaseba, lit. "If you Listen Closely") is a 1995 Japanese animated romantic drama film directed by Yoshifumi Kondō and written by Hayao Miyazaki based on the 1989 manga of the same name by Aoi Hiiragi. Originally released July 15, 1995, it was the first theatrical Studio Ghibli film to be directed by someone other than Miyazaki or Isao Takahata.
Synopsis
Shizuku Tsukishima, a young girl in junior high, loves to read. Yet, every time she opens a library book, it seems the same name appears on the cards: "Seiji Amasawa". As Shizuku learns who this person is, she also begins to learn about herself and her goals in life—a discovery that will change her life forever.
The English title was created by Studio Ghibli and used on several officially licensed "character goods" released around the same time as the film was released in theaters in Japan.
