Tokyo Godfathers

Tokyo Godfathers (東京ゴッドファーザーズ Tōkyō Goddofāzāzu) is a 2003 Japanese anime film directed by Satoshi Kon loosely based on Peter B. Kyne's novel Three Godfathers.

Synopsis

On Christmas Eve, three homeless people residing in Tokyo -- middle-aged alcoholic Gin, teenage runaway Miyuki, and former drag queen Hana -- look through a dumpster for Christmas gifts, when cries from a baby draw their attention. Believing this was a gift from God, Hana, not being able to have a child of her own, vowed to take care of the abandoned baby girl. They then, together, begin to search for the baby's mother. Through Christmas Eve to the end of the year, they encounter a variety of characters and find people they thought they'd never see again.

Dubbing History[]

Sometime between 2004 and 2006, an English dub was produced for and broadcast by the television station Animax Asia. Little is known about this dub and few clips of it exist online.

On December 19, 2019, international animation licensor, GKIDS, announced they would be releasing the movie in 2020 with a brand new 4K restoration and a new English dub.^[1]
