Super Milk Chan (スーパーミルクちゃん Sūpā Miruku Chan) is a surrealistic adult humor series for adults created by Hideyuki Tanaka, produced by Studio Pierrot and aired from 1998 to 2000 in Japan.

Synopsis

Milk-chan is a drooling, potty-mouthed baby who lives in an apartment with an obsolete robot named Tetsuko, a slug named Hanage, and an uncontrollable pet named Robodog. Whenever the President calls, Milk-chan and the gang rush to the scene to solve any type of problem - whether it's stopping a money counterfeiter hungry for Belgian waffles or counseling a school of drunk fish. At the same time, they have to avoid a nagging landlord, as they're six months behind their rent.

Dubbing History

Super Milk Chan was licensed by ADV Films in the United States. ADV created two different versions of the dub; a direct translation of the Japanese version, and an Americanized version with western pop culture references, harsher language, and short live-action skits featuring ADV voice cast members. This gag-dub version of the series was made specifically to make the series more accessible for airing on Adult Swim. Adult Swim, ironically, would choose the direct translated version for airing.

The series aired on Adult Swim on November 7, 2004 with the original vintage episodes before making its official series premiere a week later. The episodes were released on DVD by ADV from July 6, 2004 to January 11, 2005. Each volume contains 2 discs containing three-four episodes from the series as well as three vintage episodes from the original season. The first disc contained the gag-dub episodes with the second containing the uncut version.

Notes

  • Monica Rial voices Tetsuko in the direct translated version due to her sounding more like the original Japanese voice actor. Marcy Bannor does the voice for the gag-dub version, with her take on Tetsuko sounding drunken.
