The Octonauts is a British-American-Irish-Canadian-Chinese children's television series, produced by Silvergate Media for the BBC channel CBeebies. The series is produced and animated in Ireland by Brown Bag Films in season 1 to 4, also produced by silvergate in the uk and the us, also produced and animated by mainframe and cctv in canada and china but uses British voice actors. The TV series is based on American-Canadian children's books written by Vicki Wong and Michael C. Murphy of Meomi Design Inc.

The series follows an underwater exploring crew made up of stylized anthropomorphic animals, a team of eight adventurers who live in an undersea base, the Octopod, from which they go on undersea adventures with the help of a fleet of aquatic vehicles.

Background[]

The series was given a partial redub for airing in the United States when the series premiered on the Disney Channel in January 2012. Some of the characters' voices were redubbed to give them American accents (Hispanic in the case of Peso and Pinto, however Pinto has an American accent in Above and Beyond.), although Captain Barnacles, Kwazii, Tweak (Still having a southern accent but retains her original voice actress in Season 2-4) and Prof. Inkling retained their original British voices.

While the original British recording studio, Peacock Sound, was the only company credit listed in the end credits for the show's first season, the second season's credits reveal that the series was redubbed at Big Yellow Duck in New York. As such, the redub features several New York-based voice actors.
