The Mystery of the Third Planet

The Mystery of the Third Planet (Тайна третьей планеты, Tayna tretyey planety) is a 1981 Soviet animated film directed by Roman Kachanov. It was produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow and is based on the Alisa (Alice) Selezneva book series by Kir Bulychev.

Dubbing History[]

The film was first dubbed in 1981 as Mystery of the Third Planet. The English dub was produced by Jambre Pictures. The dub has an uncredited voice cast. Mystery of the Third Planet was released on VHS as part of the Stories from a Land Far Far Away series by Vidtape Inc. Various character names were westernized such as Alisa's name being changed to Christine. The dub was later released on DVD and was commonly available at dollar stores.

In 1995, the film received a 2nd English dub as Alice and the Mystery of the Third Planet produced by Films by Jove. It aired on television as part of the Mikhail Baryshnikov's Stories From My Childhood series. The dub featured the voices of Kirsten Dunst, Jim Belushi and Harvey Fierstein. The dub was cut down to 44 minutes and had a new soundtrack.
