The Misfit of Demon King Academy is a 2020 anime television series based on the light novel series with the same name written by Shu and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. It was published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko imprint on March 10, 2018. The original web novel of the series was published by Shōsetsuka ni Narō on April 2, 2017. The manga version of the series was illustrated by Kayaharuka, and was serialized and published in Square Enix's Manga Up! magazine from July 24, 2018 to July 10, 2021, with a total of 4 volumes.
The anime series was announced during the "Dengeki Bunko Aki no Namahōsō Festival" event on October 6, 2019.[1] It was animated by Silver Link, directed by Masafumi Tamura, chief directed by Shin Oonuma, series composition by Jin Tanaka, composed by Keiji Inai, and it premiered the first season in Japan from July 4, 2020 to September 26, 2020, consisting of 13 episodes. A second season titled as The Misfit of Demon King Academy II was divided into two cour, both consisting of 12 episodes. Its first cour aired from January 8 to September 24, 2023, while the second cour premiered from April 13, 2024 to July 25, 2024.
Crunchyroll licensed the series, while Bang Zoom! Studios produced an English dub of the series, which premiered on their streaming service on September 5, 2020.[2] The first cour of the second season premiered on February 27, 2023,[3][4] while the English dub for the second cour of the second season premiered on May 24, 2024.[5]
