(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu) is an anime based on the light novels written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito. It was produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Tetsuya Ishihara. The original run contained 14 episodes and was aired between April 2 and July 2, 2006. The second season aired between April 3, 2009 and October 9, 2009. The English adaptation of the anime was licensed by Bandai Entertainment.
