The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun (太陽の王子 ホルスの大冒険 Taiyou no Ouji: Horus no Daibouken), also known as The Little Norse Prince or Horus, Prince of the Sun, is a Japanese animated adventure fantasy film. Directed by Isao Takahata, and produced by Toei Animation, the film premiered on July 21, 1968.
Synopsis
As a baby, Horus was saved by his father from their burning northern village, after the village was attacked by a powerful demon. Several years pass, and on his deathbed the father bids Horus to return to his people. Horus goes on a journey and quickly finds a village plagued by a monster. After slaying the monster, he one day finds, in another ruined village, a cute girl, singing in a heavenly voice. He brings the girl to his new home, but soon finds that there was a good reason for her being alone in the wasteland...
While dubbed uncut, American International Pictures aired an edited version of the film for TV Syndication under the title The Little Norse Prince. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer retains the rights to this edited version whilst the original is under Toei Animation.
Optimum Releasing released the film on DVD in the UK in 2005, but this release was sub-only.
