The 3 Wise Men (Los reyes magos) is a 2003 Spanish animated film directed by Antonio Navarro. The film tells the biblical story of the Three Wise Men who followed the star to Bethlehem to deliver their gifts to baby Jesus. The film was released in Spain on December 19, 2003. It was released direct-to-video in the United States by Disney on October 8, 2005, with an English dub featuring Martin Sheen and several Hispanic and Latino actors.

Synopsis

The 3 Wise Men is the biblical story of the birth of Jesus Christ and the journey of the 3 Wise Men who brought him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The story also delves into King Herod's wrath and attempted sabotage; as he was jealous that Jesus was called the child king of Bethlehem, and therefore wanted to have him killed.

Dubbing History[]

The original version of The 3 Wise Men was in English and recorded at Telson Studios in Madrid, Spain, under voice director Stephen Hughes, who also adapted the Spanish script into English and played the part of Belial. After animation it was dubbed into Spanish. This original English soundtrack was included in the limited 2004 video release in Spain.

In 2005, the film was distributed to the US by Disney. For this release, a large majority of the film was re-dubbed at Skylark Sound Studios under the direction of Bob Buchholz. This dub features actors with name recognition such as Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez, as well as Richard Montoya, Herbert Siguenza, and Ric Salinas of Culture Clash fame. As Disney's release was aimed towards the Latin American market, many of the actors for this redub are of a Hispanic or Latino ethnicity. A few voices from the original Telson version are retained, however, mainly extras or a few minor characters.
