Manga Sekai Mukashi Banashi (まんが世界昔ばなし, Manga Sekai Mukashi Banashi), released in English as Tales of Magic, is an anime produced by Madhouse. In the United States, the anime has been released on multiple public domain collections. It has also been released as Merlin's Cave.
Dubbing History[]
The show has been released in English-speaking countries by different companies under various titles. In 1979 American Way released a selection of 65 episodes in three seasons with the title Tales of Magic. In 1986 Embassy Home Entertainment released on VHS selected episodes of Tales of Magic, sometimes under the alternative title Merlin's Cave (Merlin's Magic Cave on the videotape cover).
Another English dub was also produced by BFA Educational Media around the same time and aired on CBS as specials, utilizing the same voice cast from The World's Greatest Fairy Tales. In the 1980s, there was a third English dub Wonderful Tales from Around the World which was produced by Cori Films Int'l and distributed by Orient Film Associates. The dub was narrated by Kojak actor Telly Savalas and used more well-known voice talent. This dub covered episodes that were skipped by the prior dubs due to being multi-part episodes. The multi-part episodes were released as films.
