Snow Postman (Снеговик-почтовик Snegovik-pochtovik) is a 1955 Soviet animated short film.

Dubbing History[]

The short was first dubbed into English as Spunky the Snowman in 1958. The dub was produced by Sterling Films. Spunky the Snowman first aired as part of the Capt'n Sailorbird package series. The dub only had an uncredited narrator. The short also changed from a New Years-themed short to a Christmas short and changed Grandfather Frost to Santa Claus. The short was cut down into 7 ½ minutes from its' original 19-minute runtime. The Spunky dub is currently in the public domain.

In 1993, a second dub was produced by Films by Jove under its' original title Snow Postman as part of Animated Classic Showcase. The dub was recorded in Vancouver by Ocean Productions. The second dub restored its original runtime, but was still centered on Christmas and the dub refers to Grandfather Frost as Santa Claus.
