Serial Experiments Lain (シリアルエクスペリメンツ・レイン Shiriaru Ekusuperimentsu Rein) is a 1998 anime series broadcast by TV Tokyo. The series is about an introverted girl named Lain, who after the suicide of a classmate, acquires interest in the Nexus (an advanced Internet browser), and goes into this virtual world, losing contact with reality.
It was released in North America in 1999 by Pioneer Entertainment. Subsequently, the series has since been re-licensed by FUNimation Entertainment after Pioneer's closure.
