Rurouni Kenshin: New Kyoto Arc (るろうに剣心 -明治剣客浪漫譚- 新京都編, Rurōni Kenshin -Meiji Kenkaku Roman Tan- Shin Kyōto-hen) is the OVA adaption of the manga of the same name by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It is made to celebrate the announcement of the second live-action film adaptation. The OVA is based on the Kyoto Arc of the manga, but its story is different from the original.
Synopsis
Told from the perspective of Misao Makimachi, this alternate retelling of the Kyoto arc chronicles the adventures of wandering swordsman Kenshin Himura and his quest in putting a stop to the evil Makoto Shishio and his plot to take over Japan.
J. Shannon Weaver and Gray G. Haddock are the only two voice actors who reprised their roles from the previous OVA series, while the rest of the characters were recasted due to the OVA being recorded in Houston instead of Austin.
Interestingly, David Wald who voiced Shishio in this OVA would later reprise his role in the live-action films.
