Robby the Rascal (サイボットロボッチ Cybot Robotchi, Saibotto Robocchi) was a 1985 film produced by Jim Terry Productions, compiled from a 1982 anime series. Cybot Robotchi was created by Ken Ishikawa It premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo on October 7, 1982 and ran for 39 episodes until its conclusion on June 29, 1983. The series was assembled into a 90 minute film and released in 1985 on the Kidpix Inc. video label.

Synopsis

Robby (Robotchi) is a fun-loving, mischievous robot with a TV built into his stomach. Robby lives in a peaceful village with various other robots, all created by the eccentric and lecherous Dr. Art Deco, who has a major crush on local policewoman Sgt. Sally (Sachiko). Although Robby is an android and prone to accidentally causing mischief, he has a warm, kind heart and is always willing to help out a friend in need. With his human girlfriend Tiffany (Kurumi Yukino), he gets into a variety of wacky adventures.

However, a rich, spoiled inventor named Horace (Highbrow) will stop at nothing to get Robby for his own. Much of the plot of the English feature-length dub of the anime involves Horace's attempts to threaten the peace in Robby's village, with the help of his female assistants, Tracy and Yvette.

Notes[]

  • The English version contains a number of original songs by Marc Mercury and his production company, Bullets.
  • The film is assembled from 15 out of 39 episodes. Only 7 of those 15 were adapted into the main plot of the film, while the remainder were used for opening and closing credits footage.
  • While Cybot Robotchi was only released in America as this film, the whole series was dubbed into Italian as Robottino and into Spanish as Robocito.
  • Horace III does not appear in the original anime until episode 21. Robby the Rascal edits the storyline so he is the central villain while the series's early villains - the mob trio - are his hired operatives.
