Patlabor: The Mobile Police (機動警察パトレイバー Kidō Keisatsu Patoreibā) is an anime series based on the manga created by Masami Yūki.
The story takes place in the "near future" of 1998. Robots called "Labors" are employed in heavy construction work. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police has its own fleet of Patrol Labors or Patlabors to combat crimes/terrorism and deal with accidents involving Labors.
The story revolves around the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Special Vehicle Section 2, Division 2, a motley crew of Patlabor policemen and women doing their best to fight crime and live a normal life.
It was released in the United States by Central Park Media on subtitled VHS from July 7, 1998 to February 8, 2000, spanning nine volumes. They later released the series on DVD with an English dub produced by Matlin Recording.
