Dubbing Wikia

Opera is a 1987 giallo film directed by Dario Argento.

Synopsis

A young opera singer on the cusp of stardom is hounded by a psychopath with a connection to her past, who forces her to watch as he brutally murders her friends and colleagues.

Dubbing history[]

Originally, the film was dubbed in the UK, featuring an entirely British cast. After the movie premiered at the film festival in Cannes featuring this dub, it was ridiculed by the audience. One of the most criticised points was the dubbing of Urbano Barberini, done by the films dubbing director Robert Rietti. Rietti's voice was deemed too old (He was about 64 at the time of recording, while Barberini was only about 25 at the time of shooting) and too prim for the character. Thus, the film was rushed to Rome, where Rietti's lines were re-recorded by the much more fitting Leslie La Penna. All other characters kept their UK voices.[1]
