Yu Yu Hakusho: The Golden Seal, (幽☆遊☆白書, Yū Yū Hakusho) also known as Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie is a 30-minute film that was released theatrically in Japan on July 10, 1993 at the seasonal Toei Anime Fair and directed by Noriyuki Abe.

Synopsis While vacationing, Koenma is kidnapped by a pair of demons known as Koashura and Garuga, who demand the possession of Lord Enma's coveted "Golden Seal". Botan finds Yusuke Urameshi and Kazuma Kuwabara on their summer vacation as well, and asks for their assistance in Koenma's rescue.

Dubbing History

The movie was originally dubbed by Animaze for Media Blasters, under their Anime Works division, in 1998. This dub predates FUNimation's dub of the TV series by 3 years, and as such has a completely different cast. It was released on VHS on June 9, 1998, and later released on a single DVD with Ninku: The Movie on January 30, 2001

In 2011, FUNimation Entertainment released the film to DVD, along with the Eizou Hakusho OVAs, on December 13, 2011, featuring a new dub with their cast from the TV series.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Poltergeist Report (幽☆遊☆白書 冥界死闘篇 炎の絆, Yū Yū Hakusho: Meikai Shitō Hen – Honō no Kizuna) is the second of the films based on the series, originally released in Japan on April 9, 1994.

Synopsis When the Spirit World is flooded due to an unusual rainfall which overflows the River Stynx, Lord Koenma senses an extremely powerful enemy. He entrusts Botan, to deliver to Yusuke a mysterious item which must be protected from the invading enemy. However, by the time Botan finds Yusuke, she's too weak to explain the situation. Yusuke and his friends are left in the dark about the new enemy, but not for long. Soon it is a battle for Earth between mere Spirit Detectives and the almighty king of the Netherworld.

Dubbing History

The dub was dubbed into English by Central Park Media and Skypilot Entertainment in 1998, around the same time Media Blasters dubbed The Golden Seal. The dub was released on VHS on March 3, 1998 and DVD on October 8, 2002, with a DVD reprint later issued on January 31, 2006.

As of 2017, this is the only Yu Yu Hakusho property not acquired and redubbed by FUNimation with their cast. The rights to the movie are unclear after CPM went bankrupt in 2009, though it seems the rights holders are unwilling to license the movie to FUNimation.
