Lapitch the Little Shoemaker (Čudnovate zgode šegrta Hlapića) is a 1997 Croatian animated film based on the children's book by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. While the characters in the book were humans, in this adaptation they are all anthropomorphic animals.
The original Croatian version features different music from the various dubs of the film. The movie was initially dubbed uncut, but when it was released onto VHS/DVD by both Sony Wonder and Stepping Stones Entertainment, the English dub had several minutes and a whole musical number (“Take My Hand”) cut out. These edits, for the most part, excise all references to Christianity from the film.
The uncut version of the film made its debut on Amazon Prime Video, but has since been removed from the streaming service.
The film proved so popular that an animated series spinoff came out in 2000.
