Kenjirō Tsuda (津田 健次郎 Tsuda Kenjirō) is a Japanese voice actor and singer. He is best known for voicing Seto Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kento Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen, Tatsu in The Way of the Househusband, and Sadaharu Inui in The Prince of Tennis.
Biography[]
Due to his father's work, he spent his time growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia, from the age of one until the second grade of elementary school.
His hobbies are cameras and motorcycles, and he speaks Kansai dialect. He likes both making and watching movies. He started going to the cinema in middle school, and watched old foreign films until high school, and art films after entering university, but he says he doesn't like any genre. He's also well recognized due to him having a lustrous low voice.
Career[]
From junior high school onwards, he began to go to art house theaters that he had seen in magazines, and he thought, "I want to go into the film industry in the future." He served as the student council president in high school. When he started going to independent theaters, he was encouraged by the fact that crazy people like Jean-Luc Godard were making crazy movies and getting praised for them. He also liked Spike Lee and Wim Wenders, and Jim Jarmusch's "Stranger Than Paradise" was a movie with nothing happening, but it was really cool, and he thought, "I want to go in that direction too!" and wanted to become a film director. However, he couldn't write a script, and although he had the urge to express himself, he didn't know how to express himself specifically. He continued to relax like that, and when he was in his second year of high school, he realized, "Huh? I have to take an entrance exam." He entered the Meiji University Faculty of Literature Department of Theater Studies, and originally wanted to make movies, but in his third year of university, he was tempted by the devil and thought, "I can't imagine a specific vision of what I want to express in a movie." He became interested in acting, applied to the En Theater Institute's major course, passed, and became passionate about theater activities.
After graduating from the training school, he was affiliated with a stage agency. He was asked to audition, and made his voice acting debut in the 1995 TV anime "H2" as Noda Atsushi. After his breakthrough in the anime "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" and "The Prince of Tennis," he mainly worked as a voice actor and also appeared on stage. He was the narrator of the NHK morning drama "Yell," and after appearing in the main story, his appearances in TV dramas and movies increased. He is active in many areas, including narration for television programs and commercials and as a radio personality.
He made his film directorial debut with "Document Entertainment AD-LIVE", released on February 2, 2019.
In 2021, he won the Best Actor Award at the 15th Seiyu Awards. On April 2 of the same year, he announced that he had left Amuse, the company he had been affiliated with, and moved to Andstair, which includes former Takarazuka Revue member Hiroki Nanami and others.
