Hidenari Ugaki (宇垣 秀成, Ugaki Hidenari, born July 25, 1963) is a Japanese actor and voice actor from Tokyo. He is currently attached to 81 Produce. He is best known for his roles in Mobile Fighter G Gundam (as Argo Gulskii), the TV Tokyo edition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (as Donatello), the 2005 Doraemon series (as Kannari-san), and the Yakuza video game series (as Goro Majima).
Biography[]
A graduate of Toho Gakuen School of Music. In 1984, he entered the Bungakuza Theatre Institute. He has a history of appearing in TV dramas as an actor, but has since shifted his focus to voice acting, including anime, games, dubbing, and narration.
His voice is soft, but anime fans know him for his macho, rough voice. He often plays middle-aged to elderly characters, appropriate for his age. He is active in a wide range of fields, including narrating commercials, providing audio commentary, and dubbing foreign films.
In the "Super Sentai Series," he often voices monsters, and after a guest appearance in "Denji Sentai Megaranger," he has become a regular villain voice actor. In "Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger," he played his first regular role as the Apostle of Infinity, Voffa.
In the Yakuza series, he plays the role of Goro Majima, but struggles with the Kansai dialect that Majima speaks. As a true Edokko, he is unable to speak well even after receiving dialect training, and he says with a hint of self-deprecation that Masayoshi Yokoyama, the scriptwriter and director, told him, "Let's go with the 'Majima dialect.'" He was a classmate of Takaya Kuroda, who plays Kiryu Kazuma in the same series.
His hobbies and special skills are skiing and swimming.
