Godzilla vs. Hedorah (ゴジラ対ヘドラ Gojira tai Hedora), originally released in the United States as Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster is a 1971 tokusatsu kaiju film produced by Toho, and the eleventh installment in the Godzilla franchise. The film was released to Japanese theaters on July 24, 1971.

Dubbing History[]
Ca. 1970 - 1971, Toho would commission Hong Kong ex-pat and former Axis International script writer Bob Toole to produce dubs of their films. These films include but may not be limited to Space Amoeba, Lake Of Dracula, and Godzilla Vs. Hedorah. Additionally, Bob handled the English dub of the Taiwanese-Japanese co-production, The Magic World of Watari. Bob was probably fluent in Japanese after having spent a significant amount time stationed there after enlisting in the army. Hong Kong dubber Linda Masson believes that Bob had left Axis due to a disagreement with Axis' owner Ted Thomas. Linda says that Ted felt Bob was "being disloyal" when he left Axis. All of the available dubs Bob produced for Toho were likely recorded around the same time, but all have slightly different voice casts. The cast of Vs. Hedorah consists of an unknown male dubber of Canadian descent with no theories to his name, Marc Toole, Carolyn Levine, Barry Haigh, Barbara Laney, Rex Ellis, Chris Hilton, Jack Moore, Saul Lockhart, and Bob Toole (unconfirmed).
Godzilla vs. Hedorah was released theatrically in the United States in February 1972 by American International Pictures, under the title Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster. It was dubbed into English by Titra Studios, in the company's last work on a Godzilla film. No footage was cut or replaced, apart from shots of Japanese text. Notably, the anti-pollution song which reappears throughout the film, "Return the Sun!", was replaced by a new version with English lyrics called "Save the Earth," written by Adryan Russ and Guy Hemric and performed by Russ.
Prior to AIP's Americanization, Toho commissioned an international English dub from a company in Hong Kong, which went unreleased in English speaking territories until the Sci-Fi Channel aired it on January 20, 1996. The film was the first known Godzilla dub Toho would commission for a Hong Kong-based dubbing group instead of Tokyo's Frontier Enterprises.
