Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (ゴジラvsデストロイア Gojira tai Desutoroia) is a 1995 tokusatsu kaiju film written by Kazuki Ōmori, directed by Takao Okawara and produced by Toho. It is the twenty-second installment in the Godzilla series as well as the seventh and final film in the Heisei era of the franchise. The film was released to Japanese theaters on December 9, 1995. This movie got worldwide publicity when Toho announced this film would feature Godzilla's death. In addition, this movie would also go on to be Momoko Kōchi's final film to star in, the last film produced by Tomoyuki Tanaka and the last movie that Akira Ifukube scored music for, before their deaths. Despite that, Ifukuabe's music themes would resume being used in subsequent films.
Dubbing History[]
Very shortly after the movie had its' release in Japan, Toho commissioned Hong Kong dubbing studio Omni Productions, to dub this movie into English as part of their business practice. It would be released in the country on July 6, 1996. For International releases of the movie, an English title card would be superimposed over the Japanese title, just like it was done with previous 1990s Godzilla movies.
The United States got this movie along with the previous movie Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla for the very first time directly on home video on January 19, 1999 by Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment. TriStar used this dub that Omni made, but they cut out the end credits and created new titles and opening credits for both movies, which also included subtitling the film's title. In less than a year later, both movies would also be released on DVD by Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment on February 1, 2000. On May 6, 2014, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has given this moive a Blu-Ray release as part of The Toho Godzilla Collection alongside with Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. The full Toho international version of this movie has been aired on several premium movie channels since the early 2000s.
