El Chavo (El Chavo Animado) is a Mexican animated series, created by Ánima Studios, based on the live action TV series El Chavo del Ocho, produced by Roberto Gómez Fernández, son of series creator Roberto Gómez Bolaños, and distributed by Televisa, which began on October 22, 2006 and ended on June 6, 2014.
The series El Chavo del Ocho, on which the series is based, was produced as independent live-action series that ran between 1973-1980 and as sketches on the program Chespirito between 1971-1973 and 1980-1992. Many elements of the original series, including most of the original stories, were included in the animated series.
Dubbing History[]
The series was dubbed into 52 English episodes and aired in Kabillion's video-on-demand, with some changes. The theme song and most of the character names were changed, but the original theme song can be heard during the credits of nearly every episode. Spanish cuisine was Americanized, and the setting changed from Mexico to New York City. Episode titles were changed to idiomatic English.
Despite only 52 episodes being released, further episodes seem to have been dubbed at some point. Erin Fitzgerald lists on her resume that she voices Phoebe and Gordon starting from Episode 53 (inferring that Kate Higgins is no longer in the cast).[1]
