Dororo

Dororo is a 2019 anime television series based on the manga series with the same name written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka. The original manga was serialized from August 27, 1967 to October of 1969, with a total of 4 volumes.

The anime was announced in March 2018. It was animated by both MAPPA and Tezuka Productions, directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, and it aired in Japan from January 7, 2019 to June 24, 2019, consisting of 24 episodes. It streamed worldwide on Amazon Prime Video. Sentai Filmworks announced on March 31, 2021, that they licensed the anime for home video release and would produce an English dub for the series. The Blu-Ray of the anime was released on June 29, 2021. HIDIVE streamed the series on their service on January 28, 2023.

Synopsis

During the Warring States period, the young thief Dororo encounters the enigmatic Hyakkimaru, a strange sightless boy who wields fearsome prosthetics in place of his missing limbs. Parts of Hyakkimaru’s body, skin and organs were traded to a group of 12 demons by his father in exchange for power and prosperity. Thanks to a kindly medicine man, Hyakkimaru survived this horrifying ordeal and now wanders the land in search of his missing body parts. Together, he and Dororo will fight to survive in a demon-plagued, dangerous and unforgiving world.
