David Cain Haughton (born 13 December 1951), known professionally as David Brandon (also credited as David Haughton), is an Irish actor, voice actor, writer, and theatre director who has mostly appeared in Italian films.

Biography[]

Born in Cork, Ireland, on December 13, 1951, Brandon lived for many years in England, where he attended the University of Cambridge and formed a theatre group. In late 1973, he became a member of Lindsay Kemp's theatre company in London, where he collaborated with Kemp as a performer, director's assistant, writer, and lighting designer.

He then shifted to film in 1978, and landed a minor role in the British drama film Jubilee (1978). In the early 1980s, he worked for a brief time with Maguy Marin in Paris and eventually moved to Rome, where he began to appear in many Italian productions, and adopted the stage name David Brandon. Since then, he has appeared in over sixty films, most notably the title role in Joe D'Amato's controversial Caligula: The Untold Story (1982), and supporting roles in such films as Ator the Invincible (1983), Delirium (1987), and Casablanca Express (1989).

Today, Brandon resides in Orvieto, Italy, and continues to serve as a theatre director (including as the technical director and lighting designer for The Lindsay Kemp Company), voice artist and writer. As a writer, he has published two books of poetry, two librettos for contemporary operas composed by Maurizio Squillante, and two books on the life and creations of Lindsay Kemp.

Dubbing History[]

As Brandon's film roles were mainly Italian-based, most of them had to be dubbed. Though he usually dubbed his own roles himself, some of them were dubbed over by other actors. He worked as a voice dubber more frequently during the 1990s and 2000s, working with other voice talent such as Frank von Kuegelgen, Ted Rusoff, and Gisella Mathews.
