Corpse Princess is 2008 anime series based on the manga with the same name written and illustrated by Yoshiichi Akahito. It was published and serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine from April 12, 2005 to August 12, 2014 with a total of 23 volumes.

The anime series was animated by both Feel and Gainax, directed by Masahiko Murata, and aired the first season called Corpse Princess: Aka in Japan on AT-X from October 2, 2008 to December 25, 2008, consisiting of 13 episodes. The second season Corpse Princess: Kuro aired from January 1, 2009 to March 26, 2009, consisting of 12 episodes. The series in total consisted of 25 episodes. Funimation released it through various online distributions companies, as well as on their own website. It made its North American TV debut on the Funimation Channel on November 15, 2010.

Synopsis

After being brutally murdered along with her family, Makina Hoshimura turns into a Shikabane Hime, a living corpse contracted to the Kougon Cult, in order to exert revenge on the mysterious undead organization responsible for her death. She is assisted in this task by Keisei Tagami, her contracted priest and former friend. This series follows the story of Keisei's younger brother Ouri, a boy with an unusual attraction to death, who slowly discovers his brother's secret and gets dragged into the world of the Shikabanes.
