Bob in a Bottle, originally known as The Genie Family (ハクション大魔王 Hakushon Daimaō) is an anime comedy series made by Tatsunoko Production that aired from October 5, 1969 to September 27, 1970 with a total of 52 episodes on Fuji TV. Licensed and dubbed by Saban Entertainment, it was broadcast in Europe, North America and Australia under the title Bob in a Bottle.

An old bottle has found its way into the household of a modern family, which consists of a boy named Joey and his parents. A genie, Bob, and his daughter, Ilana, reside inside it. When Joey finds the bottle, he discovers that a sneeze summons Bob and he must grant the wish of whoever sneezed, while a yawn summons Ilana and she must do the same for whoever yawned. Getting wishes granted by either genie may not be a good thing, for Bob messes them up due to his own extreme clumsiness, while the more capable Ilana likes to cause mischief by twisting their words and meanings so that something bad happens.

Additional Voices

  • Due to the limited areas in which it was aired, the English dub has become increasingly rare and difficult to find.
  • In one of Saban's other productions, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, clips of the dub can be seen in the episodes A Bad Reflection on You and The Power Stealer.
  • Another English dub titled The Sneezing Magician was made for Cartoon Network's Asian feed in the late 90s. It is unknown if these English dub episodes survived along with the aforementioned Saban dub.
