Betty in New York is a Spanish-language American telenovela produced by Telemundo Global Studios for Telemundo, based on the 1999 Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea, written by Fernando Gaitán.

It is the second adaptation made in the United States, set in New York City, with the first being the comedy series Ugly Betty (2006-2010). The main difference is that this adaptation was produced and filmed in Spanish. The series stars Elyfer Torres as the main character. It premiered on February 6, 2019, and concluded on August 12, 2019.

An English-dubbed version was created for its broadcast on Telemundo Africa, airing in South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and on the Azam One channel in Tanzania for its release in East Africa[1].

Synopsis

Beatriz Aurora Rincón Lozano, a brilliant young Mexican woman, arrives in chaotic New York City with the hope of achieving her dreams, facing a superficial world where appearance is everything. After six months of rejection at every job interview due to her lack of physical attractiveness, Betty takes a position far beneath her abilities at the prestigious fashion company V&M Fashion. There, she becomes the personal secretary to the company president, enduring daily humiliation for her lack of style. But Betty is determined not to be defeated in this ruthless war of appearances. However, neither her intelligence nor her skills can save her from an even harsher battle: love. Will Betty be able to overcome all prejudices and find her true place in this world?
