History[]

Founded in 1998, Bandai Entertainment is a subsidary of Bandai America devoted to licensing and distributing anime in North America. They initially release their titles on VHS under the AnimeVillage label before switching to their own name. Pioneer handled their distribution services until 2004. In 2005, Bandai Visual established Bandai Visual USA, which was not affiliated with BEI, but also released anime in the North American market. In 2008, Namco Bandai merged Bandai Visual USA to Bandai Entertainment. On January 3, 2012, Bandai announced that they would stop offering new releases and focusing on their exsisting catalog. On August 31, 2012, Bandai announced they would cease their home video, manga and novel sales, thereby shutting down the company. Many of Bandai's titles have since been relicensed by Discotek Media, FUNimation Entertainment, Aniplex of America, Media Blasters, Right Stuf Inc., and Sentai Filmworks.
