Azumanga Daioh (あずまんが大王 Azumanga Daiō) is 2002 anime television series based on the Japanese comedy manga with the same name written and illustrated by Kiyohiko Azuma. It was serialized and published in Media Work's Denki Daioh magazine from February 1999 to May 2002, releasing a total of 4 volumes.

It was adapted by J.C. Staff, directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, and originally aired in Japan between April 8, 2002 and September 30, 2002, consisting of 26 episodes. The series was released in North America on DVD by ADV Films between April 27, 2004 and November 23, 2004. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series in 2016 due to ADV Films going bankrupt, and re-released the series on DVD on May 3, 2016.

Synopsis

Ten-year-old genius Chiyo, animal-loving Sakaki, loudmouth Tomo, athletic Kagura, weight-conscious Yomi and dim-witted Osaka are six friends who share laughs, good times, and a high school homeroom. With scary (and sometimes perverted) teachers, school festivals, penguin suits and general hilarity abounding, you can be sure that there's never a dull day in the life of one of these students!
