Anpanman (それいけ! アンパンマン) is an children's anime superhero television series produced by TMS Entertainment, based on the Anpanman books by Takashi Yanase. It debuted on Nippon Television on October 3, 1988 and as of 2024, it is one of the longest-running children's anime on Japanese television, spanning over 1,600 episodes.
Dubbing History[]
The first known English dub was produced & recorded around 1998 and lasted until 2002. Not enough information as of this moment was found about this dub, aside from the opening and ending themes and was used as a basis for the Sinhala, Uzbek and Thai dubs of the show.[2][3][4] The second known English dub was recorded around 2002-2003 and was produced by Canadian media company Cinar, under license from TMS. By 2004 however, Cinar was bought out by a group led by Michael Hirsch and renamed itself to Cookie Jar. The only evidence of this dub as of this moment is in a mention of the show on a resume by actor Richard Dumont.[5] This dub was also titled as Anpanbread-Man.[1] The third English dub, titled Anpanman Breadman was commissioned for Turner Broadcasting System Asia-Pacific and aired on Cartoon Network in Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Pakistan & Taiwan and Pogo in India.[6][7][8]
