Anne of Green Gables (赤毛のアン Akage no Anne) is a 1979 anime series directed by Isao Takahata, based on the novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery and considered a classic in Japan.
An English dub was produced in South Africa by the European licensor, Apollo Films, and aired there in the early 90s. It may have also aired in other countries through the 90s as well.[1]
