AnimEigo is an American entertainment corporation founded by Robert Woodhead and Roe R. Adams III. The company is noticeable for being one of first companies where bring anime over to United States and as such, giving them following. Their first release was Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01, which later given a dub treatment few years later. Other titles the company released include Bubblegum Crisis, Vampire Princess Miyu OVA, Urusei Yatsura, the original Oh My Goddess! OVA's, and You're Under Arrest.

Their name is a portmanteau of "anime" and "eigo" (英語), the Japanese word for the English language.

History[]

AnimEigo was founded in 1988 in Ithaca, New York which has been since relocated at Wilmington, North Carolina and operated by Woodhead's wife, Natsumi Ueki. In July 2003, the company signed a deal with Koch Entertainment for marketing and distributing their titles in the North America which later shut down two years after.

In 2010, AnimEigo had financial problems and so, during across three years, the company lost a ton of titles (for example: Yawara!, Battle Royal High School, Lone Wolf and Cub, and Urusei Yatsura). Beginning with Bubblegum Crisis in October 25, 2013, AnimEigo announced their first Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund a new release for potential limited Blu-ray re-release where it met its goal less in four days and Blu-ray was eventually released on December 28, 2014. Since then, the company had successfully re-releasing of Otaku no Video, Gunsmith Cats, Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01, and Megazone 23 via Kickstarter.

On February 15, 2024, it was announced that an video post-production company, MediaOCD had acquired AnimEigo, however, the current and future limited-edition crowdfunded releases would remain and MVD Entertainment Group would continue distributing AnimEigo digital releases and at retailers. AnimEigo's digital storefront also will continuing to operate under new management before moving to the MediaOCD website in the coming months.
