5 Centimeters Per Second

5 Centimeters Per Second (秒速5センチメートル Byōsoku 5 Centimeter) is a 2007 Japanese animated feature film by Makoto Shinkai. On March 3, 2007, the full length featured film had its theatrical premiere at Cinema Rise in Shibuya, Tokyo. It was previously released as three parts, the first released on February 16, 2007.

Synopsis

A tale of two people, Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari, who were close friends but gradually grow farther and farther apart as time moves on. They become separated because of their families yet continue to exchange contact in the form of letters. Yet as time continues to trudge on, their contact with one another begins to cease. Years pass and the rift between them grows ever larger. However, Takaki remembers the times they have shared together, but as life continues to unfold for him, he wonders if he would be given the chance to meet Akari again as the tale embarks on Takaki's realization of the world and people around him.

Dubbing History[]

The film was originally dubbed into English by ADV Films using their Texas-based voice cast, and was planned for a DVD release in December 2007, but the release was delayed until March 2008. This dub was only in circulation for a few months, however, as in July 2008, ADV announced that they would be discontinuing their print of the DVD. Comix Wave Films later comissioned a new dub of the film to Bang Zoom! Entertainment, which first premiered on Crunchyroll as part of their Day of Makoto Shinkai on 28 February 2009. It was later released on DVD by Bandai Entertainment in 2011, by Discotek Media in 2015 and on Blu-Ray two years later.
